What is Meditation?

Meditation is a powerful tool you can use to rediscover your own inner intelligence. It is nothing new – practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet, it’s about finding the silence that’s already there – and making it a part of your life.

Silence can be the birthplace of happiness, creativity and a world of infinite possibilities. From this field of potentiality we get bursts of inspiration, intuitive thoughts, and a deep sense of connection. By practicing meditation on a daily basis, you can weave stillness and silence into your mind and body which will create a life of increased compassion and fulfillment. Meditation can be a journey to the center of our very being; a journey to emotional freedom; and a journey to the reawakening of our unconditioned self – the part of us that doesn’t fully know the word “can’t” or the word “should.”

What is Primordial Sound Meditation?

Primordial Sound Meditation is a meditation technique originating in the ancient wisdom traditions of India. Primordial Sounds are the basic, essential sounds of nature and are used to disconnect us from the constant activity in our mind. These sounds, known as mantras, are individually selected for you and are based on the vibrations occurring at the time and place your birth.

Once we determine your Primordial Sound mantra, we will teach you how to use it to meditate on a daily basis to reawaken balance, tranquility and compassion within. Your Chopra Center Certified Instructor will help you to integrate this practice into your daily routine. And integration into the daily routine is a critical part of the process. Anyone can learn to repeat a mantra, but the key is learning to make the regular practice of meditation part of your life. The most significant benefits of meditation come out of a regular, daily practice. Chopra Certified Instructors are trained to work with students to provide tips and suggestions on integration of a daily practice into the student’s life.

Despite the name, Primordial Sound Meditation does not require that you make any noises or utter any sounds.  In fact, the practice is completely silent.  The reference to Primordial Sound involves the mantra that is silently repeated during the practice.

How Will Primordial Sound Meditation Affect my Health?

Doctors are increasingly citing stress as a major contributing factor to most illnesses. A meditation practice should not be considered a cure by itself, but research has shown it to be beneficial for a wide range of health problems.

How do I Learn Primordial Sound Meditation?

Primordial Sound Meditation is easily learned in four short sessions over a period of two days.

During Session One, your Instructor will introduce you to the basic principles of meditation; it’s history and the importance of your mantra. During Session Two, you will receive personal instruction in your Primordial Sound mantra and learn how to use it. During this session, you will try meditation for the first time using your Primordial Sound mantra. During Session Three, we will discuss the practical aspects of meditation, you may share your experiences, receive answers to any questions, and meditate with your instructor. Lastly, during Session Four, you will attend a lecture describing the higher states of consciousness that can be achieved with regular Primordial Sound Meditation practice. And, your instructor will share Deepak Chopra’s vision of the higher states. Primordial Sound Meditation is recommended for anyone who wishes to enjoy deeper peace, greater freedom and mastery of life.

Do you Offer Private Instruction Sessions?

Yes!  You may be interested in private instruction rather than instruction as part of a group.  While group instruction has many benefits, including group practice meditations, sometimes a private class is more suited for your particular situation.  For example, if you want the entire family to receive their mantras and instruction together in a home environment, this may be the optimal solution.  With private instruction, the instructor will either come to your location or you may come to the regular class location.  The fee for a single private instruction session is $595.  This fee covers up to two individuals living in the same household.  There is a $50 fee for each additional family member or direct relative.

Is Primordial Sound Meditation a Religion?

No.  People of many different religions practice Primordial Sound Meditation without any conflict with their religious practices.  People who do not participate in religion also practice Primordial Sound Meditation.  It enables us to enjoy what we do in our lives more fully, including our religious practices.  Even through the technique and the mantras come from ancient wisdom traditions of India, this does not make it an Indian technique.  Just like Ben Franklin “discovering” electricity doesn’t make electricity American, Primordial Sound Meditation is a universal technique.

Why do you Teach Meditation over Two Days?

Part of learning meditation is discussing your experiences in meditation.  When you are new to the process, you will have questions about the experiences you are having.  Our course is designed to introduce you to meditation on the first day and allow you to have some time to practice it on your own so that when you come back for the second day, you have actual experiences to discuss.  This yields an improved overall learning experience.  Further, taking the course in one day would require that you sit with us for nearly 8 hours and almost everyone struggles focusing on one topic for that period of time.  For these reasons, South Florida Meditation does not offer a one-day course in meditation, nor does the Chopra Center recommend such an approach.
